Paul Petricca of Arlington Heights has held several high level jobs in marketing, sales and business development, but through it all he held tightly to his true passion: hitting.

That’s right, hitting, as in hitting a baseball or softball. Over the last 25 years Petricca has served as a private hitting coach on the side for several area high school teams and he also served as a college hitting coach.
Now, he’s taking his keys to achieving powerful hitting to a whole new audience: young players.
Petricca achieved his own field of dreams, so to speak, this summer when he had his second book published, this one a children’s book. Called “Going, Going, Gone!” it incorporates his steps to better hitting in a whimsical story about young players – including one who seems almost like an alien – aiming to launch a ball into space.
“I’m really excited about it,” Petricca says. “It’s a children’s book that not only is a fun story, but it teaches young softball and baseball players how to hit.”
A highlight of the book are the illustrations, by Dan Vick. They feature familiar Arlington Heights locations, including the Lloyd Meyer baseball field – and scoreboard – at Recreation Park, the former Grandt’s Shell Station and even references to Frontier Days.
The book is a labor of love for Petricca, who hopes that he has captured his formula for powerful hitting in a way that players, parents and coaches can understand.

It follows his 2017 book, called “Hitting with Torque for Baseball and Softball Hitters.” This 250-page manual broke down the mechanics into eight easy keys to hitting, ways to increase power and bat speed immediately and mental strategies, and all layered with his own personal experiences.
“Baseball and softball hitters at every level are looking for the same results, power and consistency,” Petricca says. “If they follow these steps (in his latest children’s book) they’re hitting will improve. No question.”
