Not only was it exhilarating enough for Kate Foley to be invited by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden to be her guest at Tuesday’s State of the Union address, but now the Rolling Meadows sophomore is drawing national attention.
Thank you for taking my call, Kate!

“It’s really crazy that she remembers me.” Kate said before the address. “I met her in November, once, so for me to have made a big impression, and realize that she remembers me is an unearthly feeling.”
The sophomore met the First Lady in November, when Dr. Biden visited Rolling Meadows High School during National Apprentice Week, and to promote the school’s Pathways to Careers program. Kate sat next to her in a roundtable discussion, and she appeared poised and focused about her future, thanks to her early engineering classes.
At the State of the Union address, Dr. Biden once again sported a purple outfit (Rolling Meadows’ school color) and she sat right next to Kate. As if that wasn’t enough, just this morning the First Lady gave her a shout-out on social media, along with posting Kate’s official White House photos.
Officials with Rolling Meadows High School and Northwest Suburban High School District 214 are beaming with pride: “Thank you, Dr. Jill Biden, for providing this life-changing opportunity to one of our students!”
Kate is on a path for a bright career thanks to the career-connected learning programs at her high school. When we say our Union is strong, it is because of young Americans just like her.
